F1 Live

The Men: Mousam Parth Anand and Saurav Chaitanya( who joined us later).
The Machine: Mitsubushi Endeavour
The Mission: Indianapolis Grand Prix and Chicago yet again and most importantly freak out n have loads of fun.
None of the cross state trips that I have been on have gone as planned this was no different either. We wanted to freak out and we were not going to let the expenditure subdue that ( well read as a tad unplanned). We finally headed out of Milwaukee at 2230 hrs to our first stop O hare to pick up Saurav. Were almost on time with him on board our next stop was the Radisson hotel in Northbrough, IL 20 miles from downtown chicago. Pali joined us there for a drink and left by 3. I never wanted to drink but ended up having one small vodka. Parth continued till 5 in the morning that is when I went to bed.
When I woke up later it was 40 minutes past noon was pissed coz I missed the England Portugal quarter finals...Mousam told me it was not very interesting to watch Portugal win the duel in the Penalty shootout. Watched Zizou unveil his magic along with Viera n Henry to outplay Brazil. Finally at 5 we headed out to Chicago, desitnation Navy Pier. Saurav and Chaitanya were impressed with the ambience hung out there for some time and later headed to the Hard Rock Cafe. One Orange Cosmo and a beer later we retreated to our not so humble abode for a good nights sleep.

Day2: We were supposed to leave for Indy by 6 which we knew would never happen. Left only by 730 and thanks to some driving skills that would put Narain Karthikeyan to shame, Parth got us to Indy half an hour before the start. We missed the parade though. It did not take much , just the roar of the engine that we heard inside, to put that behind.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway:
From oustside it is not very impressive but inside, it's a different story altogether. We were in J stand section 30 had a good view of the first corner, where in 6(+1) cars crashed out in the first lap
The atmosphere inside was unlike anything I have seen before. The pleasant fragrance of beer and burning tobacco added to the noise would force a guy to start drinking to get into the thick of the happenings. I don't think people here know any team other than Ferrari..Could see a lot of scarlet flags and tees..Some babes revealing more than what they were hiding, some in their figure hugging belly button revealing attire inviting you to gague their hips but sadly with some overgrown n humongous hunks :( was some site too.
All the cars neatly lined up one behind the other waiting for the 5 red lights to go off, saw them start off.I wanted an accident so that it would slow them down enough for me to get some decent pics, and I was graced with not one but a second one also at the rolling start. I was too engrossed with what was happening at the top of the order that I missed Nick Hiedfield's somersaults. Thankfully he escaped unscathed. These cars are just too astounding; they seemed much different from what I have seen on television. They are built great Speed, Technology which would give the rocket scientists a run for their money, safety that lets the drivers cheat death even in the most horrendous accidents. Shall not get into the race details as they are readily available. At the end of the 15th lap we decided to move around the place and thanks to Parth we knew all the right places to visit.
Our first pitstop after we got out of the stand was at the entrance of a tunnel over which these machines went over. The engines sounded like a plane getting ready to take off, to me it was a deafening roar of a marvelous piece of technology.
Our Next stop was a spot 300 mts before the end of the second straight of the track. Parth and Mousam wanted their pics taken when the cars passed so I granted them their wish. It was difficult, had to take 6 to 7 pics in a burst to get that. Then we crossed a bridge over the track the feeling here is just so fantastic even though they have a lot of protection and an almost translucent cloth over the railings extending to a height of about 8 ft, so that it does not cause the drivers to loose focus. You can see the cars approaching and then later passing under the bridge. Just after the bridge is the 3 rd chicane of sector 2 you can hear the gears dropping and it is like music to ears, not all would agree to that, some ppl had earplugs and I was there just to listen to these wonder machines, blazing the track pushed to its limits by nothing less than audacious drivers. We later stood for quite some time at the end of sector 2 where I got some nice pics of the posterior of these machines :) well that is the best I could do.
The race was over in an hour and 34 mins. We rushed to the grandstand to get a view of the podium and watch Schumi's histrionics.
What more I can't write more come for yourself and experience the pleasure.

After the race there was a flurry of calls made to friends whom I had not met in 18 months and who were there to witness the event, managed to meet Sid. Felt good though we spoke for just 10 mins. He was looking like a cute lil kid. Anu you would have defn hugged that kid n played with him.

We got back home that night after stopping over at Sabri Nihari and they did not have their famous biriyanis as they were out of rice...Injustice...

It was an enjoyable three days outa milwaukee...
